Redmine is surely great PM tool thanks to its flexibility and advanced workflow. However, one very important tool is missing - visual and drag & drop Gantt chart. And that is why Redmine X Gantt Plugin is here. Let's explore what features bring the newest release (January 2022) of this helpful Redmine plugin.
Both in the project and global Gantt there is a new button "expand all - collapse all" which opens/closes the complete tree of tasks and projects. Further, zooming options are improved - you can zoom the timeline of tasks to day, week, month, quarter, or year level.
Filtering of the tasks and milestones in the Gantt and exports
Filtering was improved with the new release as well. Newly you can filter displayed tasks by any field or even custom field. Visual filtering by tasks' statuses remains the same. New is also filtering of milestones, which you can also find in the filtering menu. In the setting menu, you can find exports of the Redmine Gantt to PDF, PNG, MS Excel, or MS Projects.
Vacations in Redmine X Gantt
The new version of Redmine X Gantt can count on the users' vacations now. In the setting, you can choose which tracker represent user-defined holiday - vacation. Using this tracker users can simply plan their vacations in Redmine and vacations will be taken into account as non-working days while planning in both Gantt and Resource Management Redmine X Plugin.
But remember to have this tracker enabled only in some special (vacation planning) projects since such projects and their tasks will not be displayed in the global Gantt and neither Global Resource Management. However, if you enter the project level, Gantt of these special (vacation-planning) projects, you can visualize and plan users' vacations visually in the Gantt.
Afterward, if a user has planned vacation (using the tracker) on particular days these days will behave as non-working days when a task is assigned to the user in these days.

Non-working days and holidays in Redmine X Gantt
If planning in Gantt it is important to discern non-working days ie weekends and holidays. Weekends can be inherited from the Redmine setting or set up in the Gantt settings manually. If zero is entered, the day is regarded as non-working day in the Gantt. Particular number of hours serves for Resource Management purposes.
As for the state bank holiday and another calendar non-working day, the default country-specific holiday calendar can be selected. Based on this setting, a particular holiday will be regarded as non-working days in Gantt
This setting is global, ie for all the users and projects. However, aspecific holiday calendar can be defined for each user, since the users can come from different countries and thus have different holidays. The same applies to defining non-working days in the weekly schedule.
